Randall Gibson founded Automation Associates Inc. (AAI) in 1986 based on a strong conviction - that correctly applied simulation modeling technology could prevent costly mistakes that were made repeatedly in the design and implementation of automated systems, and would eventually become a routine part of all large integrated systems projects. This original conviction has proven correct over the years, as simulation modeling and analysis is now an important required step for validating large systems projects in many industries and government agencies.

Mr. Gibson has over 25 years of professional experience in the design, implementation, and simulation modeling of real time control systems, computer communications networks, and integrated automation/material handling systems. As the founder of White Data Systems, he helped design some of the first network-based automation control systems and software for automated handling systems. As the founder of AAI, he has developed over sixteen years of experience in applying simulation modeling and analysis technology to a wide variety of industrial and business problems, and is an expert in customized simulation models for manufacturing, distribution, and material handling and storage systems. His current focus is working with new clients to help them make appropriate use of simulation modeling techniques for large or high value projects.

From 1977 through 1985, Mr. Gibson worked as a programmer/analyst at Orincon (now part of Lockheed-Martin), and later as co-founder of two high technology software startup companies - one involved in real time process control, and the second in integrated material handling automation/control (White Data Systems, now part of FKI/Logistex - one of the largest integrated suppliers of material handling systems and technologies in the world.).

Mr. Gibson is a native of Southern California, and attended undergraduate studies at the University of California, San Diego, where he received a double major with honors in Applied Physics/Information Science, and in Psychology in 1972. After gaining two years experience as an electronics engineer, he attended graduate school at the University of California, Berkeley, where we received a Masters of Engineering in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science with a minor in Business in 1976.

Mr. Gibson is recognized and considered one of the senior leaders in the simulation industry. He has written numerous articles on practical aspects of simulation modeling for industrial and business applications, is a frequent speaker and panelist at industry conferences, and is a senior member of the Institute for Industrial Engineers.
