Innovations
January 2008

Welcome to Transystems | Automation Associates' monthly Innovations newsletter, where we share best practices in supply chain analysis and simulation engineering through case studies and industry experience. In this month's issue, we introduce the concept of agent-based modeling and discuss the advantages "agents" have over discrete-event modeling.

Introduction to Agent-Based
Simulation Modeling

Members of the TranSystems technical staff attended the annual Winter Simulation Conference in Washington D.C. this past December and were struck by the large variety of presentations and case studies that featured the word “agent”. In fact, “agent” was in 75 of approximately 320 technical papers. What was even more surprising was that there was no specific conference tracks dedicated to “agent-based modeling”. For this month’s Innovations issue, we will provide an overview of agent-based modeling. We will review the various types of modeling that fall under this category and commercial software that supports agent-based modeling. We have also included two brief case studies of how this form of modeling is enhancing the solutions TranSystems delivers to its clients.  Read More
