Welcome to Transystems | Automation Associates' monthly Innovations newsletter, where we share best practices in supply chain analysis and simulation engineering through case studies and industry experience. In this month's issue, we focus on using modeling tools for Strategic and Operations Planning in the transportation and logistics community. Simulation for Strategic and
Operational Planning
Simulation modeling is a proven technology to help companies make better decisions for both strategic planning and day-to-day operations. In the transportation and logistics community, modeling has traditionally been used by freight carriers such as the Class 1 railroads to help plan fleet movements and crew scheduling across the entire rail network. While network-level modeling is important for the carriers themselves, the customers that use these carriers are also starting to recognize the value of simulation in their own strategic planning.
The Transportation Modeling Studio (TMS), TranSystems' suite of software tools for rail network modeling is being used by major U.S. companies to answer these types of questions. This month's Innovations illustrates how a global leader in the production of petrochemical and plastics products utilizes the TMS for strategic design, yard operations planning, and justification of capital investment.
