Our approach

We follow a structured approach to improve your healthcare processes.

Step 1 - Analyze your current systems

  • Define existing workflows
  • Interview staff to understand process issues, perceived bottlenecks and expectations for future growth and patient mix
  • Review records to quantify historical process parameters such as patient arrival patterns, waiting/treatment times, and staff schedules
  • Conduct observation studies of patients and staff in primary and supporting departments to gather process data
  • Measure/quantify existing performance levels
  • Identify easily changed aspects to immediately improve performance
Step 2 - Develop improvement options
  • Work instructions
  • Patient flow
  • Staffing levels and schedule rules
  • Facility layout and usage changes
  • Bed-assignment strategies
  • Measurement and data collection plans to ensure continuous monitoring of the department(s)
  • Technology and capital equipment upgrades
Step 3 - Test options
This helps determine the viability of the proposed design changes and predict their potential impact on performance. It also eliminates costly, time-consuming trial-and-error testing. In this step:
  • Develop simulation models to quantify cost, length-of-stay and utilization of facilities, equipment and staff
  • Present recommendations, models and analyses to staff
  • Modify the design based on test results and staff feedback
Step 4 - Implementation
We help your healthcare team implement appropriate changes. We also support you in developing a performance measurement approach so you can monitor the health of your system.
